Stories Behind the New Songs on Apoplectic

Six of the 13 tracks on the new Apoplectic CD are brand-new and the other seven were released earlier this year on singles. So what are the six brand-new songs about?
1. Come for Some
The name of the group who performed the song we spoofed here sounds like a Bible verse: Seven Mary Three. But this parody comes from Proverbs 8-9, a passage which personifies wisdom and folly as women who stand in stark contrast to each other -- one seeking to save and the other seeking to destroy.
5. Better Than Exorcism
In Matthew 12:43-45, Jesus says that when an evil spirit is driven out of a man, it comes back later. If its previous home is still empty, the demon brings seven others who are even worse. That's why having Christ dwell in your heart through faith (Ephesians 3:17, 2 Corinthians 13:5) is better than exorcism.
7. Bathwater
The Apostle Peter said that in the last days people would mock Christ's seemingly belated return, but that the reason for the delay was God's desire for as many people to be saved as possible (2 Peter 3:3-9). Someday, however, Christ will return. And the bathwater may already be circling the drain.
10. Comeback
Christianity teaches that a man must be born again. Some other religions teach that a man must be born again and again and again -- a continual repetitive cycle of birth, death, and rebirth. But the Bible is opposed to reincarnation, stating that "people are destined to die once, and after that to face judgment" (Hebrews 9:27).
12. Matching Punches
The Apostle Paul told his disciple Timothy that "everyone who wants to live a godly life in Christ Jesus will be persecuted" (2 Timothy 3:12). That's still true today. Some will say we are too young, too old, too extreme, too narrow. And yet, despite all this, we are filled with a radical faith.
13. Under the Breath
The Gospel is free so you gotta give it away now. It's good news, although many don't receive it as such because it implies that they're not good enough to make it to Heaven on their own. But friends don't let friends drive themselves to the other side; they'll just wind up lost. We did a primitive version of this song back in 1995, by the way.
