This Past Weekend in IN & OH
Mon., May. 29. 2006 7:41pm EDT
Well, our trip to Indiana and Ohio this past weekend was fun, but it raised all kinds of questions, like:
Why were the Beach Boys making all that fuss about Kokomo IN? Sure, it's a nice place with great people, but the surf was virtually non-existent. We know it's got to be the same locale, though, because we heard the song on the muzak at the IHOP after the show.
Why are the French trying to close down the town of La Porte IN? A couple of the band members took French in high school and college, and one of the first phrases they teach you is "fermez (close) la porte." That's a shame, because it's a great place, and by the looks of the restaurants they even offer fine French cuisine, such as french fries and french toast.
Why didn't we meet anybody named Shelby in Shelby OH? After all, we met a guy named Sky in Shelby and a girl named Sky the night before in La Porte. If we can meet two Skys (Skies?) in two days, wouldn't you think we'd meet at least one Shelby?
But aside from those questions -- which still haunt us -- it was a great weekend. It was one of those rare weekends when Bill Hubauer wasn't with us on keyboards, so we took the opportunity to pull out a lot of old favorites from the archives and preview some new songs from the next CD.
Thanks to:
our concert coordinators: Tom and Nicole "No H in the first name, 2 H's in the last name" Harrah (Kokomo), Mark Van Meter (La Porte), and Scott McKinney (Shelby).
our merchandise coordinators: Sandy, Aaron, and Keith (Kokomo); Matt, Patrick, Rachel, Jan, Mandy, and Sky (La Porte); and Jenn "Superchick" Kipp and Michelle (Shelby).
our roadies: Greg, Rich, and Larry (Shelby)
our soundmen: Mark (La Porte) and Greg (Shelby)
Our drummer, Jimmy "Vegas" Tanner, would also like to personally thank Rein Bontreger for the Truth Custom Drums shirts and stickers he made.
Congratulations to Jenn "Superchick" Kipp, who has now joined the 10 State/Province Club. Ohio was the ninth state Jenn has seen us play in, but she's also seen us play in Ontario, Canada. It was her 52nd show overall.
Honorable forgot-to-mention to Marie and Rich Polick, who drove a round-trip of 20 hours to Kewanee IL last weekend.
