This Past Weekend in KY, IN & PA
Mon., Sep. 25. 2006 1:26am EDT

One of the hottest Christian bands in the 1990's (and a favorite of our keyboardist, Bill "Wild Thing" Hubauer) was a group called PFR, a.k.a. Pray for Rain. No offense to PFR or to Hubie, but we spent a bit of time this past weekend praying for no rain. And God answered our prayers.

Our concerts on Friday in Morehead KY and Saturday in Elnora IN were both outdoor concerts, and both venues were hit hard with rain shortly before we arrived to set up. Moreover, the skies still looked threatening up till the point when we played. But, in both cases, God enabled us to play a full-length show, meet with fans, and get packed up without getting rained on.

By the way, although we've never covered a PFR song, we did spoof the song "No Rain" by Blind Melon on our "Ticked" CD. ApologetiX fan Josh Fyffe of Campton KY was anything but ticked that there was no rain at Friday's concert:

This is not so much a question as a thank you. It was a very rainy and dreary day today and as I drove to Morehead this evening it kept looking more and more like it was going to start pouring down the rain again. It did start raining on us as we reached the outskirts of Morehead, but God's blessing was with you, since the rain stopped just a moment or two later and the night remained calm for the concert. I know it was a small turnout, but thank you for staying even though the weather looked like it might not let you play.

I had wanted to get a chance to see you when you played in Hunnington, WV, but due to some unfortunate events we could not make it to the concert that weekend. I do have to say that you guys did an amazing job and it was an awesome feeling to be able to be there and hear you guys perform. Keep the faith and keep spreading the Gospel and may God keep you safe on your tour.

It's a long way from Elnora IN to Seneca PA, so we'd booked hotels in Cincinnati OH for Saturday night to get us four hours closer to our final destination. Speaking of final destination, we had our own little horror movie happening an hour into the journey, when the van's headlights started cutting out intermittently on dark, foggy, twisting back roads. Thankfully, after prayer and a stop to look under the hood, everything was fine for the rest of the trip, and we got to the hotel at about 4 a.m.

We had pleasant, sunny weather for our Sunday show in Seneca PA, but, wouldn't you know it, that was an indoor concert. It was flooded with people, though!

Special thanks to:

Our concert coordinators: Andy Gehron (Morehead), Marilyn Padgett (Elnora), and Tammy Botts (Seneca).

Our merchandise coordinators: Bill, Jimmy, and J. (Morehead); Audra, CheriJo, Courtney-Brittany, Tammy, Rick, Kim and Little Ax'l (Elnora); and Susanna, Sally, Tammy, and Mike (Seneca).

Our soundmen: Dave (Morehead), Paul (Elnora), and Greg (Seneca)

Our roadies: Rich, Greg, Larry, Brandon, and Evan (Seneca).

Our opening band: Kwench (Elnora). We've played with these guys a few times, and we like them a lot. Of course, that raises this question: if Kwench ever played on the same stage with Among the Thirsty (another opening band we've played with a few times who are also great guys), would they cancel each other out -- would Thirsty get "kwenched" or would Kwench get thirsty?
