One of the most beloved members ApologetiX ever had was a brilliant guitarist named Andy Sparks, who shared guitar duties with Karl Messner in our early days and later switched to bass after Jerry Hayostek left the band. You can hear some of Andy's guitar work on our Isn't Wasn't Ain't CD and his bass playing on our Radical History Tour CD. He also plays on some of the tracks on our Rare Not Well Done downloads.
Sadly, health problems forced Andy to retire from ApologetiX in August 1995, and they have prevented him from making appearances at our reunion shows. We do hear from him occasionally, though. Here's an excerpt from a letter we just received from him this week:I just wanted to tell you that the band shows people that Christianity is very cool and that God grants the desires of our hearts -- playing music.
I still play the guitar and maybe a Rush tune now and then. I'm reading the Book often. I was given a book called "The Beatles, the Bible, and Bodega Bay." It's about the band, written by Ken Mansfield, the former U.S. manager of Apple Records, who became a believer.
Kathryn Kuhlman said there is "too much at stake" not to be concerned with the truth, and through the group you are making an eternal difference. Keep delivering your message -- Louder is better.
See ya,
Andy
