ApologetiX Weekly: Michigan, Chile, K-LOVE, 2001 Schedule, Etc.
Thu., Jan. 25. 2001 2:16am EST
Howdy ho, neighbor!
J. Jackson, lead singer for ApologetiX (That Christian Parody Band) here.
I hope 2001 is working out well for you! We finished 2000 and opened up 2001 in Philadelphia. After that, we spent some time in western Missouri, down near Kansas and Arkansas. This weekend, we're heading up to Michigan for a concert in Kalamazoo.
Lots of things to talk about, including:
1. Concert in Michigan this Friday
2. HM Magazine Review of Spoofernatural
3. Interviews (Including 3 You Can Hear on the Net!)
4. ApologetiX Mega-Weekend on Salem Broadcasting Stations
5. Choirboy Up to #23 on the Charts
6. Chile Today and What Tomorrow?
7. Convulsions By a Jury of Our Peers
8. Concert Schedule 2001

2. HM MAGAZINE REVIEW
Here's the review of "Spoofernatural" on p. 64 on the Jan/Feb 2001 HM Magazine, which is available in most Christian bookstores across the country. HM Magazine is heavily connected to the Cornerstone music festival. Doug Van Pelt, the editor in chief of HM, wrote the interview himself. The folks at HM Magazine are not easily impressed, so we're tickled that they took such a liking to us!
"Weird Ap Ologetix-ovich returns with 19 more parodies. This is comedy for the music man. "Play That Funny Music" starts things off with a funk vibe, then the band wades through melodic hard rock, pop punk, rapcore, country, Latin, rockabilly, surf rock, and grunge. You might find yourself rolling on the floor during "Crowd of Foreign Girls" or singing "Follow along in the Bible" (to the tune of "La Bamba"). These goofballs are good musicians. That's not to say that some of their performances won't make you groan, but the vast majority are done impressively well. You've gotta hand it to a cover band that will take on Kid Rock, Bon Jovi, Joan Jett, and Santana, Backstreet Boys, Ricky Martin, and Stray Cats. 3. INTERVIEWS
We've also been doing a ton of radio interviews lately. I just did one with Larry Wayne, the morning-show guy at K-LOVE out of Sacramento, this morning. K-LOVE is broadcast on 151 stations all over the United States, so this was a great opportunity to talk about what we do and why we do it. In the hours since the broadcast, we have gotten a tremendous response from K-LOVE listeners. What a blessing!
Here are a few upcoming interviews, including three that you can listen to on the Internet!

4. SALEM BROADCASTING MEGA-WEEKEND
February 23-25, we will be running ApologetiX advertising spots every hour on the hour throughout the weekend on 118 stations on the Salem Christian radio network. This should get the message about ApologetiX out on many stations that may not have played ApologetiX before and to many audiences who don't know about us yet. Stay tuned for more info.

5. "CHOIRBOY" UP TO #23
We're delighted to see "Choirboy," an autobiographical cut from our "Spoofernatural" CD, moving up nine notches to #23 on the WITR indie chart for "Uncle Samoo's Zoo." Last year, "Kick in the Wall" hit #3 and "Droppin' on the Sun" rose to the #1 spot. Other ApologetiX hits on Uncle Samoo's charts have included "Put You Down in My Will" (from "Biblical Graffiti"), "You Gotta Go" (from "Ticked"), "I'll Prepare for You" (from "Jesus Christ Morningstar") and "Read Ephesians" (from "Radical History Tour"). How ironic will it be if "Choirboy" continues to move up that chart and becomes (like the song says) "a top 10 smash with the nuns all smiling"?

6. CHILE TODAY AND WHAT TOMORROW?
It never ceases to amaze me how we get requests for our CDs from DJs, pastors and others from all around the world. I always think two things: "How do these people know about us?" and "How do they all speak English so well?" Recently, we got a request for our CDs from a DJ in Chile who told us his countrymen needed to hear ApologetiX. This morning, he sent an e-mail with his reaction:
"Hey J!
Just a short note to let you know the CDs { Spoofernatural and Biblical Graffiti } arrived ok!
We just played "Pray Now (Lost Art)", people liked it, and asked for more, so, we're playing "Kick in the wall" next Saturday ....
We are posting a double review on our site next month, on both albums, with the proper links to your site, and stores that carry your product .... by the way, try and contact Enzo, from Mighty Tees, http://habitantes.elsitio.com/artenzo/index2.htm , to see if he can sell your music here in Chile! E-mail: productosmt@hotmail.com or ammi@chilemix.com or both ....
By the way.... any chance you could send us a copy of Ticked (Rolling Clone) and/or Jesus Christ Morning Star for airplay, review, promotion, enjoyment and such? ("Narrow Way to Heaven" and "Young as You Are" should be a blast with kids here!)
Hope we can help in any other way to your ministry ... just let us know ... k? Blessya!"

7. CONVULSIONS (OF LAUGHTER) BY A JURY OF OUR PEERS
We got this email the other day from our old friend, DJ and concert promoter Erik Lane. You've hard of Texas longhorns? Well, Erik is a much rarer breed -- an Arkansas longhair! He wears his hair proud and plays his music loud in St. Marys, PA! Erik is always introducing ApologetiX to the other bands he meets, and here's the latest:
"Just wanted you to know that the ScreamingGIANT Recording group "Jeremiah's Grotto" has a new favorite band: ApologetiX! They played at The Cord Saturday & were the "in-studio" guests of "Bread-n-Jam!" last night. While they were here, we spent Sunday afternoon going through the show's catacombs & I put on some of your music. We ended up loading the 5-disc CD Changer with every ApologetiX release & just skipping from one song to the next, each time with the room filling with gales of hysteric laughter. They were in awe of the talent in the writing & the art of parody. Since they were choosing the tunes for the show that night, we played 2 of your songs during the program -- the Green Day & the Pearl Jam parodies. . . .! What a howl! Just thought you'd like to hear the news.
