This Past Weekend in IL & IA
Mon., Aug. 10. 2009 2:16pm EDT
Our tour stops this past weekend, August 7-8, included Danville IL (near Champaign-Urbana) and Washington IA (near Iowa City).
At a fuel stop Friday morning, ApologetiX guitarist Tom Tincha picked up a Dick Van Dyke Show DVD collection and asked the other guys if they remembered the veteran television star, also known for his roles in Mary Poppins, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, and Night at the Museum. Hours later, when we arrived in Danville, we discovered we were playing in the grand auditorium of the high school Van Dyke attended, as did actor Gene Hackman.
Of course, Hackman has starred in many famous films including, The French Connection and Hoosiers, and we'll be near French Lick In in the Hoosier State this coming Friday.
Here's an email from a fan who came to Friday's show:I really enjoyed seeing you guys in Danville IL last week. You guys rock! Here's what Saturday's concert coordinator had to say:Thank you for coming to Washington IA and Hamakua!! The teens were so excited and really enjoyed your music and loved helping out!
