NEW CD UPDATE
Our new CD, "Spoofernatural," is due to hit the stores on Tuesday, November 21. The CD contains 19 parodies. Like "Biblical Graffiti," it's a mix of parodies of classic rock and songs from the past year or so. There's plenty of variety for everybody -- 50's, 60's, 70's, and a LOT of '80's, which is our main focus on this CD.
If you've read our previous two newsletters, you know that rather than giving you a complete song list, we're giving you the lowdown on two songs per week (the theme of the song plus clues as to what it's a parody of), to make it more exciting. Here are the two tracks featured this week (Look for a special note from our lead guitarist/producer Karl Messner below that.)
Track #4
Song Title: "Elijah"
We needed a song to continue the ApologetiX tradition of subjecting our listeners to one country song per CD, but since we were doing a CD with tons of '80's songs, we decided to spoof a country song from the 1980's. We introduced this song in concert in New Jersey last Saturday to a great response. Like the song "I've Got Elijah Fightin' Baal" on our "Radical History Tour" CD, this country parody deals with the prophet Elijah calling fire down from heaven. But rather then the story in 1 Kings 17, this song tells the story from 2 Kings 1, shortly before the prophet Elijah ascended into Heaven. The wicked king of Israel at the time, Ahaziah, sent a captain and 50 soldiers to capture Elijah, but the prophet called fire down from Heaven, and it consumed them. A second captain and his 50 men met the same fate. The king was undaunted and sent a third captain and 50 more men. The third captain, however, begged Elijah for mercy, and saved his own life and the lives of his soldiers. This song speculates on what was going on in the third captain's mind while he was on his way to see Elijah.
Track #5
Song Title: "Sin Can Be Resistible" This was not a song we originally intended to do, but it was a huge hit in 1988, and while I was driving to Kentucky early in 2000, looking for some other tune on an '80's compilation tape, this one came on, and an idea struck me. The new lyrics came so quickly and were so heartfelt, that I knew it had to go on the new CD. I remember feverishly scribbling the words down in my car and transcribing them as soon as I got to my hotel that night. Many people don't know that the Bible clearly says that we're all sinners and that none of us come close to the righteousness God requires (Romans 3:10, 3:23); some of us have more public or obvious sins (1 Timothy 5:24), but we all stumble in many ways (James 3:2). But centerpiece scripture verses of this song are: James 4:7b "Resist the devil and he will flee from you," and a scripture that totally changed my life (about the same time the song we're spoofing came out) 1 Corinthians 10:13: "No temptation has seized you except what is common to man. And God is faithful; He will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, He will also provide a way out so that you can stand up under it." Whoa ... now THAT'S powerful!

KARL'S KORNER
A note from Karl Messner, lead guitarist and producer for ApologetiX -- the man with his finger on the pulse of the new CD.
There's electricity in the air. "Spoofernatural" is incubating wonderfully in ApologetiX's rustic studio just north of Pittsburgh. As we put on the polish, we're also feverishly working with stores to get them on the shelves in time for the launch on November 21st. Our current plan is to release the CD to stores only for the first two weeks and then to make it available via the Net. We know we won't be able to get to ALL 2600 Christian bookstores in time for them all to have it, though. There will be plenty of major national advertising tipping off new ApologetiX friends to go hunt down this "Spoofernatural," including a full-page color ad in the venerable CCM Magazine.
How you can help: 1) Find the Christian bookstore near you and go see if they have ApologetiX. If they don't, please tip them off that hundreds and hundreds of stores around the world are carrying ApologetiX. (Maybe find another store in the area from http://www.apologetix.com/stores.html )
2) Tell them that they can order through their major distributors, Ingram/Spring Arbor, Riverside or New Day.
3) Give them the phone number of our retail relationship manager, Tim Hetchler. Tim personally takes care of all the stores who carry ApologetiX. He makes sure they have everything they need and they get the best deal. Tim is a great guy and also represents Billy Graham, so they may already know him. (J's Note: Since I constantly interrupt Karl in concert, I feel compelled to interrupt him here: No, Billy Graham doesn't play drums on any of the tracks on "Spoofernatural.")

4) Mark your calendar and try to be at your neighborhood store on Tue., Nov. 21, 2000, in your ApologetiX T-shirt (still available at http://www.apologetix.com/cds.html You can pick up your copy of "Spoofernatural, and help show support for your favorite Christian parody band. (If you're feeling particularly obnoxious and giddy, you can ask out loud, "Excuse me, do you have "Spoofernatural," the new CD from ApologetiX, That Christian Parody Band!?"
I can't wait to hear the stories of what happens. We have some pretty crazy friends and fans.
And if you're near Pittsburgh, stay tuned. You'll be invited to a huge bash. We'll be talking more about the release party soon. We're going to pick one area store to be at that night signing the first copies of "Spoofernatural," kicking back with some snacks and blaring the new CD! Hope to see you there!

1 Timothy 5:24-25
The sins of some men are obvious, reaching the place of judgment ahead of them; the sins of others trail behind them. In the same way, good deeds are obvious, and even those that are not cannot be hidden.
