Answered Prayers for Rich Polick
Mon., Sep. 6. 2010 11:33am EDT
Last week, we asked you to pray for our good friend, Rich Polick, who needed emergency surgery for aneurysms the doctors discovered in his abdomen. Rich frequently drives our bus and has been to more concerts than any other fan.
Aneurysms are extremely serious, but Rich faced the news with a sense of humor and strong faith in the Lord. Doctors performed the surgery on Thursday morning. Rich is a widower, but his 21-year-old daughter Marie was there, as were Keith and J. from ApologetiX.
Afterward, while waiting for Rich to come out, the three met with one of his surgeons, Dr. Carey. He said, "Looks great. Looks super. Everything went great. We were able to use the small incisions." He said they used 4 pieces (stents).
Marie asked about his recovery time, and the doctor said "There's a good chance he could go home tomorrow. He'll have to lay down today. He'll be able to get around, but no straining, no lifting."
A little bit later, Dr. Sandhu, the main surgeon just gave us a further update on Rich's surgery and he summed it up at the end with: "Things went very well. I was very happy."
Rich did have some complications later in the day with his heart rate slowing down to 30 beats per minute, but the doctors were able to correct this, and he was discharged on Friday. Unbelievably, he was able (and eager) to attend the ApologetiX concert Saturday in Hookstown PA, less than 20 miles from his house.
Rich wouldn't even have discovered his aneurysms (which were quite sizable) if he hadn't needed a routine physical for his work as a truck driver the previous week. Praise the Lord for His providence, His preservation and His healing power!
