J. Jackson, lead singer and lyricist for ApologetiX (That Christian Parody Band) here.

Hope you're having a good week. I know of two members of ApologetiX who are actually going on vacation starting this weekend (not yours truly), and I'm very happy for them. They'd better get their time in now, because we're back on the road in two weeks! They picked a good time to get out of Pittsburgh, too; it's bitter cold here, and we've had all kinds of combinations of snow and ice in the past week.

Right now, I'm typing this email to you from my living room. My wife and kids are all in bed. This Sunday, our baby, Kelly, will turn four months old. Heather is now 20 months old, and Janna is
7. Janna, Lisa (my wife) and I all just got over a bout with Strep Throat (I started getting it the day of the JC-TV taping last week in Southern California), but we're feeling well, and thankfully, our doctor says it doesn't usually affect kids under two years, so that was great for Heather and Kelly. Keith and his family all had it too, but they're better now, too.

Aside from Keith and me getting Strep Throat, the taping of the one-year anniversary show for JC-TV went very well. I believe the show will be airing in a week or two, and I hope to have the details soon, so you can tune in if you like. We played "Life Restored" and "Smooth Grandmama" and did an interview with the famous Christian rapper T-Bone.

I got a real kick out of telling T-Bone that we currently had the #1 Christian rap/hip hop single in the nation with "Look Yourself"! What irony! By the way, "Look Yourself" has remained at #1 for this week on the ChristianBEATS.org national rap/hip hop charts, so that's two weeks now! In another piece of irony, this week is the 16th anniversary of when I became a born again Christian, and the song "Look Yourself" is basically my testimony set to rap, so I think it's really cool that God would allow my testimony to become a #1 hit on the anniversary of when the actual event happened.

Another amusing event at the JC-TV event happened at the hotel before the show. The four of us had checked into our rooms to freshen up, and it was time to meet again. I heard a knock at my door and opened it, thinking I'd see my three amigos from ApologetiX, and instead it was the three remaining members of Christian music's world famous boy-band-turned-manly-band, Plus One! The lady at the desk gave them the wrong key. I let them in to use my phone (I'll never wash that phone again! :) No, they're nice guys, and we got to talk more in depth with one of the members, Nate, at Denny's after the show. For pics of ApologetiX members with Plus One, check out our website's photo gallery.

Another highlight of the event was getting to talk briefly with Mark Stuart, the lead singer for Audio Adrenaline, whom we'd each met before. It was nice to have him come up and ask us how we were doing and what we were planning to play. I don't have any idols in Christian music, but I do have a lot of respect for Mark as a singer, a songwriter and a frontman. I'm a big fan of Audio Adrenaline.

1. APOLOGETIX "LIVE" ONLINE CHAT COMING SOON!

Feb. 9, 2004 at 8 p.m., members of ApologetiX will be online answering your questions at Oldiesmann's ApologetiX site. For more info, go the following site http://forum.oldiesmann.us/index.php

Or click on this link:

http://forum.oldiesmann.us/index.php?board=16;action=display;threadid=112

Questions need to be submitted by February
5. Don't submit them to this newsletter -- go to Oldiesmann's ApologetiX site and read the rules.

2. VOTE FOR YOUR FAVORITE APOLOGETIX SONGS ONLINE

It never ceases to amaze us when we find out which parodies our fans pick as their favorites. We recently discovered an on-line poll sponsored by an ApologetiX fan website that allows visitors to pick their favorite ApologetiX songs (You don't have to just pick one, either) from each of our albums, including "Adam Up" and even "Isn't Wasn't Ain't."

Of course, we're interested in finding out how the general ApologetiX fan thinks, so we're going to include the link here, so you can vote, too. The neat thing is that this poll immediately updates the percentages once you vote for your favorites. All we ask is that you don't stuff the ballot box; we'd like to get a true feel for what are the fan favorites.

Here's the link:

http://mrpoll.com/poll.mpl?id=2700774272

3. "LOOK YOURSELF" #1 AGAIN ON NATIONAL RAP/HIP HOP CHART

As we mentioned earlier, the first single from our new "Adam Up" CD, "Look Yourself," remains at #1 for a second week on ChristianBEATS' national Christian rap/hip hop charts.

If you've got to see it to believe it, here's the link:

http://www.christianbeats.org/Charts-RAP

Not only that, but Christian Beats did a special feature on "Adam Up" in their "Inside Edition" for January 2004, including a great review! See #4 below.

4. RAVE REVIEWS FOR "ADAM UP"

We are so glad to see that both fans and critics alike seem to agree with us that "Adam Up" is our best CD yet. Here are a few recent reviews:

"ApologetiX is a great band, and 'Adam Up' brings all the great things about their music back in the spotlight. Grab this one while you can -- it's a MUST BUY!!! Grade: 97%"

ChristianBEATS "Inside Edition" January 2004

"Sometimes you have to listen twice to realize you're hearing ApologetiX and not the original group. That continues to hold true on "Adam Up," the Pittsburgh-based national band's eighth CD. They've released one CD, with about 20 songs each, every year for the past seven years, but quality isn't sacrificed for quantity ... All in all, it's more of the same from ApologetiX -- creative parodies that sound both lyrically and musically like the originals, with strong musicianship and plenty of humor delivering a serious message."

Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, January 18, 2004

"The real deal with ApologetiX is they keep getting better, both musically and lyrically. Like their namesake, their mission is to entertain, evangelize and educate fans with biblical brain munchies ... No matter your musical meal plan, ApologetiX has something for every taste on 'Adam Up.' Lyrically, the songs are different but musically the muscle is still there and justice is done in cloning the original cut. That's a double Adam's Up right there ... Frankly I can't stop playing it. Can't even Adam Up how many times."

The Phantom Tollbooth, January 17, 2004

"The CD is 22 parodies of popular tracks for rock to rap to country. With each CD the band seems to get better, and this CD is another quantum leap forward in quality. Plus they are doing harder and harder rock parodies... easier for us to find stuff to play!!! ...and It's 78 minutes long, a real deal for the money ... and stinkin' funny!"

Gene Savage Savage Rock http://www.savagerock.com Tulsa, OK

"Just wanted to tell you that I received my copy of 'Adam Up' in the mail today, and it blows me away! I myself am a part-time producer, and it's been fun watching the quality of your guys' work improve with each album. I thought 'Keep the Change' was fantastic, and now with 'Adam Up,' you guys are at the top of your game. I am especially impressed with the drum sounds this time around! Also, J, your ability to sound like the original singers is astounding... you sound more like Ozzy than some of the Christian 'Ozzy-copycat' bands... and you pull all the others off very well, too. Bravo! Thanks for a great and uplifting album!"

Ian, Editor Christian Metal Mayhem Magazine

5. GREAT TESTIMONY

We got this email recently from a fan, and boy did it make our day:

"I just wanted to thank you and all of your band members for the wonderful work you do. A few years ago I had 'accidentally" run across a couple of your songs on Napster. Being a big 'Weird Al' fan, I instantly fell in love with the few songs that I had downloaded. As I downloaded more and more of your music started reading the Bible, , I became saved, started spreading God's message, and have been transformed into a much happier person more in touch with the lord at any point in my life. Again thank you for what you do. You have helped me become a growing Christian.

Dan Colwell

6. APOLOGETIX IN SCOTLAND

Doug Watson is a Christian music store owner in Glasgow, Scotland, who has been stocking ApologetiX in a his store for several years now. We had the pleasure of meeting Doug when we played Atlantafest in 2002, and he presented us with a Scottish flag. We resisted the temptation to tell him in advance that we were spoofing a Scottish band, the Proclaimers, on "Adam Up," and I'll admit that I waited with slight apprehension to hear what he thought about our Proclaimers spoof, "I'm Gonna Feed (500 Mouths)." Lo and behold, he sent us an unsolicited email that said:

"Just to let you know 'Adam Up' landed in Glasgow today. It is absolutely brilliant (loved the Leith accent on 'I'm Gonna Feed (500 Mouths)' - I'm sure the Proclaimers will be pleased with it!). Of course we have played it a few times in the store and sold a few. Over the next week we will give it more airplay in the store and have added it to the playlist, this will give it a very high profile as it joins a host of releases that are currently being promoted in store (P.O.D., Casting Crowns, Delirious, Vineyard, to name but a few).

"I hope that we can make 'Adam Up' one of the top selling CD's by ApologetiX. You'd be amazed to know that we are consistently selling all your other titles and are making them known to new people all the time. 'Keep the Change' is possibly the best selling of all the titles. We are glad to partner you in your ministry and pray God's rich blessing on this new project. Peace for the New Year, Doug Watson"

Needless to say, we're honored.

7. UPDATE ON FRED'S DAUGHTER

This update just came in tonight from our friend and former ApologetiX drummer, Fred Behanna, in regard to his daughter Beth:

"Beth was scheduled to meet with her doctors on Monday to get the test results back from her catscan and petscan. Unfortunately due to the terrible weather we've been having here in the Pittsburgh area they called and cancelled the appointment. The clinic will call today or tomorrow to reschedule her appointment for either this Thursday or next Monday.

The nurse was able to let Beth know that her petscan results appeared to be quite good. The petscan, by the way, is a test that causes areas of activity to glow; since the Hodgkin's is active it is usually a good indicator that, if nothing else, the disease is not spreading. The catscan will show if the cancer is receding, in remission, or hopefully totally gone. As soon as I hear anything definite I'll be back in touch.

I do want to thank so many people for being so thoughtful and for keeping in touch via email, cards, and letters of encouragement. It's such a comfort to know that so many people are joining me and my family as we fight this battle. Thanks again and God bless.

Fred fred@apologetix.com

"Isn't Wasn't Ain't" is a limited edition CD (not available in stores), which is a re-release of our 1993 release, "Isn't Wasn't Ain't," which was previously available only on cassette (only about 1,000 copies were made of the original).

We'd hoped to satisfy our fans' desire for new material with the release of 'Adam Up," but many of you still wanted more. So we've remastered a CD version of 'Isn't Wasn't Ain't," complete with a very cool-looking label. Like our 'Have Yourself a Parody Little Christmas," this CD does not have a CD booklet (tracks are listed on the label) and is not available in stores. It's something we're making available especially for our email newsletter fans.
