J. Jackson, lead singer and lyricist for ApologetiX (That Christian Parody Band) here.

California, here we come ... er... there we went! Sorry, due to a last-minute Easter newsletter, a mid-week family vacation in Washington D.C., and an early departure for our concerts in California, we didn't get to send you a newsletter last week. I'm actually typing this on the flight back from the Golden State.

Thanks to all you Californians who came to our concerts in Palmdale, El Cajon/San Diego and Riverside, especially to our booking agent, Kathleen Burke; our chauffeurs, Tony Nole, Big Tom the Antelope Sweeper, and Randy Hyde, who lives in a house formerly owned by a guy named Jeckyll (honest!) that looks like the Hotel California, and who also helped set up the concert in Riverside.

Special thanks also to Todd "Tony Stark/Iron Man" Sherinian, who coordinated this year's and last year's concerts in El Cajon and should have been mentioned in the "Adam Up" booklet for numerous reasons, not the least of which being he's the guy who took the photos on the cover! Sorry, Todd: when it was time to put your name in, we drew a blank ... literally. Todd gave a brief evangelical message at the end of our concert in El Cajon and 14 people came forward. He also came to our concert in Riverside Sunday and prayed with two more people, even though it was a city-sponsored event and we played with a bunch of secular bands and had to let the lyrics do most of the talking. It took a couple songs before the crowd figured us out, but once they did, God gave us amazing favor with them, and I think a lot of people who bought CDs were buying their very first Christian CDs.

Saturday's concert in El Cajon was also the first ever "live" performance of "Meshach," our parody of "Love Shack." The girls in Everlife (Amber, Julia and Sarah), our friends who sang the female vocals for "Meshach" on the "Adam Up" CD, flew in from Nashville to open up for us, and they joined us on stage later for the first ever group performance of "Meshach" (On the studio version, I recorded my parts a day or two before they did.) I think Karl will be posting some photos of that on apologetix.com soon if they're not there already. You can learn more about Everlife at http://www.everlifeonline.com Note: Don't just go to everlife.com; that's something totally different.

Our Friday concert in Palmdale will forever be fondly remembered as the one where the soundman (from a local sound company) told Bill he needed to play 50 percent more quietly and asked me if I was going to "scream like that all night" (We do a version of "Revelation Man" during sound check where I inject a little heavy metal near the end in order to test my voice and to relieve the boredom). Thankfully, that took place during sound check, and the soundman really did do a great job, as did the soundmen at all three concerts.

1. THIS SATURDAY: FOOTVILLE WI

Please note that we are playing a rare morning concert this Saturday. You see, the big annual event in Footville is a gigantic, and apparently quite famous rummage sale in the morning, and we have been asked to be the entertainment and evangelical outreach. Keith Haynie, our bass player and resident collector of old video games, eight-track tapes and a zillion other outdated things, cannot wait! Hope to see you there!

5. ENCOURAGING EMAIL OF THE WEEK

Here's an excerpt from an email we received last week from a mother in Gulfport MS:

"I have tried my best to bring my children up to believe in GOD, but when my son was a teenager, he began to read a lot of things on different religions and he was practicing Wicca for a long while. But since the day that I let him listen to your CD he has thrown all his Wiccan books away and is saying now that he believes in GOD ... You are a true blessing to my family for inspiring the young to know Christ as their personal savior."

6. FOUR APOLOGETIX TUNES TOP 10 IN VENEZUELA

One of my many roommates/housemates in college (I had 11 in all) was a guy from Venezuela named Jorge, who liked Culture Club and Madonna ... and just about nothing that I ever played on my stereo.

Now, many years later, God has brought another Jorge from Venezuela into my path, Jorge Pozo, a DJ at a Venezuelan Christian rock station, whose musical tastes seem to line up a little more with mine -- that is, if you consider the fact that four ApologetiX songs are currently in the top 10 on his station's play list. Here's an email he sent recently:

"God bless you abundantly. I'm sending you our new chart of the top 10 singles. As you'll see, ApologetiX is doing ok.

1. "Revolution" Bride
2. "Look Yourself" ApologetiX
3. "I Want in that Place" ApologetiX
4. "Downer of a Sister" ApologetiX
5. "Change the World" P.O.D
6. "Just the Same" Thousand Foot Krutch
7. "All of Us" Blindside
8. "Lo Bueno, Lo malo y El Feo" Vico C
9. "Metanoia" Inmunhe 10." Lifestyles of the Rich and Nameless" ApologetiX ( Debuting this week in position number 10) Well this is our top 10. You are just the BEST!!!"

In Christ Jorge Pozo

Isn't God grand?

7. GOOD NEWS FOR KARL & DEB

As most of you know, our lead guitarist, Karl Messner, and his wife, Deb, had a rough of time of it recently, when Deb's grandmother died after a long battle with cancer. Although nothing can take the place of her, they did received some good news April 12, when one of their horses, Kasey, had a foal, "Thrilled By a Dream," who now goes by her barn name, "Dorey." Karl and Deb didn't even know that Kasey was pregnant until November 2003.

Karl and Deb didn't ask me to include this, but I don't think they'll mind me sharing this excerpt from an email Deb sent out to friends and family:

"Both Mom and Baby are doing AWESOME, and we're so thankful for a beautiful, healthy foal! (A very much-needed break from the multitudes of bad news we've been experiencing for quite a while now!) Dorey is very snuggly and huggable - just what the doctor ordered for a still-mending heart from the loss of our foal, Dove, a little over a year ago.

"One foal down, one to go in several weeks! (One of our other horses, Molly, is due in June!)"

8. APOLOGETIX FOR COMPASSION INTERNATIONAL

ApologetiX has recently become an official advocate for Compassion International, an organization founded in 1952 that provides food, shelter, education and medical care to more than 550,000 needy children in more than 20 countries.

That means we've joined a host of other Christian bands who support Compassion International by speaking about it and having a table at our concerts where people can sign up to sponsor individual children and even correspond with them. In addition, every person who signs up to be a Compassion International sponsor at an ApologetiX concert will receive a free ApologetiX CD of their choice.

Our bass player, Keith Haynie, who was the first ApologetiX member to become a sponsor himself, coordinates our efforts with Compassion International, and he now takes a moment to speak for the organization at our concerts.

You can sponsor a child for as little as $28 a month, which provides a lot more than you'd think. According to its website, "Compassion International exists as an advocate for children, releasing them from spiritual, economic, social and physical poverty and enabling them to become responsible, fulfilled Christian adults."

For more information, please email Keith at keith@apologetix.com or go to Compassional International's website: http://www.compassion.com

9. KARL AT GMA WEEK

ApologetiX lead guitarist/producer Karl Messner will be at GMA Week with the rest of the contemporary Christian music community next week, and he's already scheduled to do about 30 T.V. and radio interviews ... no exaggeration! Our publicist and booking agent, Kathleen Burke, will be there, too. I was there in 2000 and enjoyed it very much, but the kids have kept me busy here since. Karl has been our faithful ambassador now four years in a row.

10. SEE THE DOVE AWARDS AT YOUR LOCAL CINEMA

Like me, you probably can't make it to GMA Week and the Dove Awards, but you can be a part of the next best thing. Regal Cinemas nationwide will be broadcasting the Dove Awards "live"! It's a great and unique opportunity for fans all over who love Christian music and can't afford to come to Nashville to see the awards show "live"! So, now, in at least 50 places, you can feel like a part of this great night for the cost of a ticket to the movies. For more info and to order tickets, go to http://www.regalcm.com/index_gma.asp
