From an Internationally Touring Fiddler
Thu., Feb. 23. 2012 3:25am EST
Last weekend we were joined onstage at both concerts by teen fiddling sensation Jake Bartlett of Cumberland MD. who played "The Devil Went Down to Jordan" with us, as did a few times in 2011. But Jake isn't our only fiddling fan. In fact, he can take inspiration from another fan who emailed us last week:My name is Phil Smyth. I had seen a bunch of shows in the 2000-2003 range and I was a huge fan. I had just come across your website and I was reminded about how much of an influence you guys had on me as a musician.
I had just started playing guitar when someone showed me your stuff. The variety of styles that you guys play (all very well) was probably one of the most influential things for me as a guitar player. It is now pretty much my career.
I am 22 years old not and am touring full time playing guitar and violin with the international touring fiddle band Barrage. http://www.barrage.org
I am glad to see you guys are still going strong and I hope that our paths cross in the future so I can check you guys out again. Hope all is well.
Phil Smyth
Custer WI Note: Like Phil, Jake Bartlett also plays guitar, and his mother's from Germany, so we wouldn't be surprised to see him on the international circuit someday, too!
