Sound Trak III: The Search for Spack
Wed., Mar. 14. 2012 10:55am EDT
This Friday, we'll celebrate the third anniversary of Greg Spack's first concert as our sound engineer. His first concert behind the board for us was March 15, 2009 in Du Bois PA, although he'd attended three concerts in previous years as a fan.
Before Greg's came along, we were in desperate need of a qualified sound engineer who could tour regularly with us. We prayed together as a band about that, and he was running sound for us a week later!
Greg is an incredibly talented individual with a great heart for ministry. Not only does he run our sound and light systems, he coordinates our stage set-up, including load-in and load-out, and shares driving duties, since he has a commercial driver's license (CDL). But he is involved in much more than that behind the scenes.
An electronics whiz, Greg is an accomplished guitarist, bassist and singer who has performed in a number of bands. He has also been known to fill in for us on occasion when needed. He even contributed background vocals to and assisted in the engineering of our Wise Up and Rock CD.
In addition to his duties with ApologetiX, Greg has two other regular jobs. He is the sound engineer for Butler Community Alliance Church and a school bus driver for Valley Lines.
Greg is also the owner of Echelon Sound Pro Audio Tech and Guitar Service. He's an outstanding guitar tech/mechanic, and we highly recommend him. http://www.echelonsound.com
Greg and his wife, Michele, have two young-adult kids, Chris and Amanda. Chris (a.k.a. "The Wunderkind") frequently runs our lighting system when he is able to take time away form his college studies in computers.
ApologetiX lead singer J. Jackson adds, "One of the first things that impressed me about Greg was seeing his reaction as we watched 'The Passion of the Christ' on the band bus. The guy had tears streaming down his cheeks.
"Of course, his musical and technical skills are absolutely vital to us. As I tell people at concerts, he's Spack-tech-ular! But you gotta have heart, and Greg has that in abundance."
