J. Jackson, lead singer and lyricist for ApologetiX (That Christian Parody Band) here.

Thanks to everyone who came to see us in Louisiana, Tennessee and Pennsylvania this past weekend! We had a great time. Here are some follow-up comments from each stop on the trip:

From Clayton Poland, who organized the concert in Calhoun LA on Saturday:

"Everyone loved the show. I haven't spoken to anyone who wasn't impressed with the level of talent and God given abilities. They were also very impressed with how y'all related all your songs to the Bible stories. I hope we can have you back for next year for a bigger and better show. I hope God will continue to bless your efforts and give you guys as many dates to choose from as possible. I will be happy to be your Louisiana version of Camp ApologetiX. Hope to see you guys soon."

From Tim & Carla Coffey, who attended the concert in Gray TN on Sunday:

"I just wanted you all to know how much that I and my family appreciated and enjoyed the concert that you gave to our community ... You gave those of us in attendance such a wonderful blessing. What a wonderful witness to those of us who were there! Your ministry is touching lives especially the young people of our time. You reach out to those young and old who may not listen to a sermon but are intrigued by the familiar song, with lyrics changed to deliver the gospel message. Keep up the great work! From John Kraly, long-time ApologetiX fan who came to the Elizabethtown PA concert on Monday:

"On behalf of Elizabethtown and some Harrisburg locals, THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU FOR GRACING US WITH YOUR PRESENCE!!!!!!! I wish I could see you guys more than once a year, but will settle with that over none! I have 2 friends of mine who are now addicted to your music since I invited them to your concert last night. You guys just get better and better with age, I love being an ApologetiX groupie!!!!"

Thanks, guys! Hope to see many more of you in New England (Maine), Cincinnati (with Petra, Nicole C. Mullen, Seventh Day Slumber, ZOEgirl, Tait) and Virginia this weekend.

By the way, ApologetiX keyboardist Bill Hubauer will be along with us this weekend, his first time with us at each of those locations. Rumor has it we may even get a special visit at the Maine concert from David McKee, the multi-talented, mega-funny guy who played drums on "Jesus Christ Morningstar." If you collect ApologetiX autographs, make sure you get get David's -- one of the rarest of ApologetiX alumni signatures. I've only seen the guy three times since he recorded "Morningstar." He filled in on drums for us at two Pennsylvania concerts and came to visit us at another in 1998-99, but the last I saw him was five years ago this month!

4. Kid Rock and Ted Nugent React to ApologetiX

We often get asked how the original artists react to our parodies. Here's the story of how Kid Rock reacted to "Choirboy," our parody of his song "Cowboy," as told by ApologetiX fan and Michigan-native Jeff Caswell, who has played guitar with the likes of Ted Nugent and Joe Walsh.

"Dateline: Detroit, MI, the Palace of Auburn Hills. The event: Van Halen Concert. Kid Rock was there to introduce Van Halen to a sold-out arena of screaming fans, but little did he know he would be introduced to ApologetiX music. While the concert took place out front, behind the stage in the green room, Kid Rock was listening to something much different.

"It went down like this: In the green room there were a small group of people hanging out talking -- people such as radio station executives, local celebrities, contest winners, and fans. There was also this other dude there with a CD in his hand. He was talking to Kid Rock and telling him about this band, ApologetiX. The dude knows his stuff because anybody who can play guitar like him must know a thing or two about music (sorry, ego boost :)

"Anyway back to the story: The man put the CD in, and played a parody of Kid Rock's 'Cowboy' called 'Choirboy.' After hearing the first 30 seconds, Kid Rock started laughing, cursing and saying things like, 'This is great.' He must have liked it, because he listened to it a couple more times. He also said to the person who brought the CD that he was not going to be getting it back. How do I know this? Well, I'm the guitar player who does not go anywhere with out an ApologetiX CD with him.

"The facts are this at the concert I was introduced to Kid Rock. We were talking music, guitars, bars we both played at and sports. Once the concert started, I caught up with him again back stage and told him about the band and 'Choirboy.' He told me something like, 'I'd like to hear it sometime.' I think he was being polite, but I was carrying 'Spoofernatural' with me, hoping I would have a chance to play it for him, because I knew he was going to introduce the Van Halen that night. His reaction was cursing, laughing and phases like, 'This is great!" (expletives deleted). That's when he told me I would not be getting the CD back. Also we listened to "Jonah Jonah." He liked the joke at the end of the song, by the way. That's the story of Kid Rock listening to ApologetiX."

This past spring, Jeff also sent "Catch That Fever," our parody of Ted Nugent's "Cat Scratch Fever," to the Motor City Madman himself. When the two got together this summer, Jeff says, "We talked about all of your CDs and the band -- Karl's guitar playing, your writing, and Bill saying if Ted killed it, Bill would grill it. Also, Ted's son and I talked about video games and Keith."

Jeff adds that Ted liked the song and wants to meet Karl. I'm sure Karl will be happy to oblige if Ted leaves his guns, bows and arrows at home :)

5. Encouraging Emails of the Week

We received the following email this week from a high school student who has seen us at a number of concerts in the Midwest over the past couple of years. We've withheld her name and location for privacy reasons, but this email is reprinted with her permission.

"You guys have been a HUGE part of my life these past 2 years. I thank God every day for bringing you guys in my life. Your love for God and your music has made me become a believer. I grew up in a Christian home, and I guess I was just suposed to become a Christian like the rest of them. but for some reason I couldn't get into God, or His word, or church, and I didn't understand His love for me. But when I came across your music it totally blew me away. I never could get into Christian music until I found ApologetiX. Last May, I accepted Christ into my life, and what helped me do it was all the verses you guys wrote on the things I would always get signed for these past 2 years. I looked over them. and just broke down crying and accepted Christ into my life."

What a beautiful piece of encouragement! Here's another one we just received from a young lady named Mary in Pennsylvania:

"Thank you for making me what I am today. Your music has inspired me in so many ways. When I was at the concert last February, I was still struggling with Christianity. I sang all the secular lyrics to all the songs that you guys played, but I bought a CD and anyways. Well, needless to say the copy of the CD is worn out. Even the copy that I burned of the CD is worn out. (I copied it because you guys autographed it; didn't want to break any regulations!) I listened to a little bit of 'Adam Up' and love it too. I listen to your music at random times but also when I'm feeling down on myself and don't want to listen to the secular version of a song. When I hear the secular version on the radio now, I sing the version you guys wrote. It's really funny and I don't often catch myself doing it! "

6. Update on Our Latest Single

"Downer of a Sister," the third single from our "Adam Up" CD, was the most added song last week on the ChristianBEATS rock charts, and is now spinning on 42 stations, thanks to those of you who responded last week, and contacted stations on the list we supplied. The single is now up to #7 on the R&R New and Active Rock chart, #18 on the ChristianBEATS alternative chart, and #34 on the ChristianBEATS rock chart.

As we mentioned last week, "Downer of a Sister" is a pretty hard-rocking song, so there are a number of stations who ordinarily play ApologetiX that are still considering whether to play this single. What helps convince them? People contacting the station and requesting it.

Here's a report I just received a minute ago from one of our fans, Liz in Wausau WI, who took the initiative and contacted her local station:

"I live in Wausau, Wi, and as you know, the Christian radio station has been hesitant about playing "Downer of a Sister". Your newsletter encouraged me to write them, though I wasn't sure how my e-mail would attract their attention. So I decided to become a temporary songwriter and write a parody myself. The following song is sung to the tune of the Oscar Mayer Wiener song.

oh i wish that i could hear a favorite song of mine, "downer of a sister" it is called. it's by a band that's called apologetix. so could you maybe play it, pretty please?

this little ditty has been brought to you by, ~liz"

You don't have to be as imaginative as Liz. A simple email or call will do. If you'd like to help, here's that list again of the stations that are still undecided:

AOL Christian Music Channels (Internet) CJLF Life 100.3 (Barrie ON) CKCU (Ottawa ON) Commission Christian Radio Productions (Syndicated) Jones Radio Network (Consulting Firm) KAIM (Honolulu HI) KCLC (St. Louis/St. Charles MO) KGNZ Light Brigade (Lubbock/Abilene/Graham/Snyder TX) KOKF (Oklahoma City OK) KRNG Renegade Radio (Wadsworth NV) KSBJ Light Force (Houston/Galveston TX) Latin CCM (Network in South America) The X Station (Internet) WAYK/WAYG (Kalamazoo/Grand Rapids MI) WBHY (Mobile AL & Pensicola FL) WBOP (Harrisonbug VA) WCLQ (Wausau/Stevens Point WI) WERR (San Juan PR) WIBV/The Alien (Mt. Thanks for your help!

7. We Could Play Cornerstone '05 & Alive '05 (You Can Help)

We are often asked by our fans whether we will be playing the Cornerstone festival in Illinois and the Alive festival in Ohio that particular year. We've played Alive twice before, but not since 2001, and we've never played Cornerstone. But you can help. Both festivals have websites where you can vote for the bands you'd like to see there in 2005. Even if you don't think you'll be able to attend, if you think the people who will attend would benefit from ApologetiX, please take a minute to vote for ApologetiX. Thanks!

8. ApologetiX in Iraq and at West Point

Monday night in Elizabethtown PA, we were honored to a soldier who just got back from Iraq and told us his tent was rocking to ApologetiX while he was there.

We also received this email last week from an ApologetiX fan at West Point:

"I am a Cadet at the United States Military Academy at West Point. I just wanted to let you know that I love your music, and i think you have a great ministry going on!!!" Respectfully, CDT PVT Volz United States Military Academy

9. We're Coming to Austin in One Week!

In case you didn't notice the blurb last week, we are coming back to Austin TX next weekend!

So what's all the fuss about? Well, we've done concerts with KNLE in the past, and we get huge turnouts for these events (it is Texas, after all :), thanks largely to KNLE, a station that blazed the trail for Christian radio stations in the early days, and one of the first Christian radio stations to ever give ApologetiX significant airplay (These guys have been known to play entire ApologetiX albums at a time!)

On Saturday, September 4, we'll be performing a special benefit concert for KNLE. It's the least we can do after all they've done for us. This time around, we'll have our keyboardist, Bill Hubauer, with us for the first time, and we're also doing a special $7 CD sale at the merchandise table at the concert. All you Texas fans who have been asking us when we're coming back, this is the one you don't want to miss!
