Remember "Rain Man"? Read This!
Thu., Mar. 13. 2014 11:35am EDT

We just received this email last night, and we think it will simultaneously bring a tear to your eye and a smile to your face:

I am so thankful to have stumbled across you guys on Facebook. God has trusted my family with an awsome responsabilty, I don't know if y'all have seen the movie Rain Man, but I have a brother that was born in 1975. He was diagnosed with Peter's Anomaly Plus With Short Limb Dwarfism. This is a compounded disorder. There have been fewer than 70 cases reported worldwide ever.

With that being said, He, like rain man, is an autistic savant, but is also blind and paralyzed. We as a family have always taken care of Daniel. So many doctors tried to get my mom to put him in a home and "get on with her life." They were always told, "No, he has a home and a family."

Well, this is where yall come in. Dan loves music. He grew up listening to what is now classic rock, and had many CDs. When Christ moved into my family, they all had to go. And what a testimony of brokenness, loss & restoration we have. But back to Dan. He is 39 and still in diapers. He is totally blind in his left eye and legally blind in the right. He has the use of his right hand only.

He knows what time it is all the time; he doesn't need a watch or a clock, and you can't trick him on it, either. He watches everything on TV in Spanish. I don't have a clue why, but with the satellite, he can -- Scooby Doo, The Jetsons and so on. For years, he said we were his fake family; his real family was the Robinsons and they were lost in space.

Let me say this: Dan might can't walk, but he can sure stomp on a nerve. He never forgets anything. Everything that has ever happend in his life -- it's like it just happened a minute ago. Yet he has asked me the same question up to 40 times a day for the past 17 years and is always suprised at the answer, like he's never heard it before.

So when I happed upon y'all, I had to get him a CD. He loves "We Will Walk Through" and "We're More Than Champions." When we put the CD in and his earphones on him, he sang so loud and so bad, but it was wonderful. Talk about a joyful noise! He laid there in his hospital bed and flapped his right hand till he was jumping. Over and over for an hour or more.

What a blessing for him to have his music he grew up with, and words to praise God. God provided just what we needed through y'all's ministry. Thank you guys for this gift of praise. You can go to my Facebook and there is a video of Dan singing. f y'all ever come through Louisiana, Dan would love to meet y'all.

Our mother died taking care of Dan, our stepdad died taking care of Dan, our other brother also. It's just me and my sister left, and we will be until God brings us home. God gave him to us, and we love him.

After J. got Diane's message, he friended her on Facebook. Diane sent this follow-up message
I told Dan I wrote you guys a book LOL. He said, "What did they say?" I told him. "Nothing, Dan, they may not see that till next week." Just then I got your friend request. So, when he found out we were friends on Facebook, he said, "J. Jackson is my friend!" Yes, Dan, J. Jackson is your friend. He is beside himself right now.
We are very honored to have Dan and Diane as our friends.
