Last Weekend in Philly & Rhode Island
Fri., Oct. 24. 2014 1:01am EDT
We had a little trouble getting started (literally) on our trip to last weekend's concerts near Philadelphia (Harleysville PA) and Providence RI (Barrington RI). At our first fueling stop, the band bus conked out and wouldn't restart for a while.
Eventually we were able to charge the battery by using the rear generator battery, but we knew that was a temporary solution. Two local auto places in the City of Brotherly Love weren't much help, either. Thankfully, God provided help with some mechanically-minded guys at the concert named Merrill and Dale in Harleysville (you'd think they'd only know how to work on motorcycles in Harleysville, wouldn't you?) who worked on it that night and the next morning.
It looks like the bus will need a new starter again, but we were able to get to Rhode Island and back safely. We drove by New York City on the way to Rhode Island, and the tolls for bridges, etc. in that area amounted to about $100! No wonder they say if you can make it there, you'll make it anywhere!
Tom Tincha and Chris VonBartheld rerouted our trip on the way home to avoid those toll roads. It took a little longer, but it was worth it. We're still glad we got to see New York up close. Chris is a native New Yorker from Long Island but hadn't been that close to NYC in many years, so it was a trip down memory lane -- even though it was a toll lane.
Our New England fan club was well represented in Barrington. We had fans from Rhode Island, Massachusetts, Vermont, and Connecticut.
Special thanks to:
Our concert coordinators, John Taylor (Harleysville) and Holly Craig (Barrington)
Our merchandise coordinators: Nikki (Harleysville) and Trish and Aimee (Barrington)
Honorable mention (this is two weeks old but needs to be told): Carol and Ed Pomelear came all the way from Montana to see us in Virginia two weeks ago. Wow! We were reminded of that because our concert host in Rhode Island, Holly Craig, came all the way from Rhode Island to see us in Montana several years ago.
