Last Saturday at SoulStock 05 in Alabama
Tue., May. 10. 2005 8:15am EDT
Thanks to y'all who came to see us in Alabama last weekend.
Our first appearance at SoulStock was a wonderful experience. The organizers and volunteers were unbelievably friendly, nice, kind, hospitable (go to 1 Corinthians 13 if you still need more adjectives). They even asked us to extend our concert time from the scheduled 75 minutes to almost two hours and would have let us go longer if we hadn't been concerned that we'd wear the crowd out in the hot sun.
ApologetiX fans showed up in full force among the 15,000 in attendance, including regulars like Hope Johnson and Ally Gibson, two friends who decided to celebrate their birthdays together with us. We made a lot of new friends and fans, too, and met a number of longtime fans who had literally been waiting years for us to come to their area.
Here's an email from one of those fans, a guy named Frank Wonder:
"Thanks for a great concert in AL!! You all did a terrific job and have a marvelous witness. It was also nice to chat with you for a minute after the show. My daughter Erica had never been to one of your concerts and just loved it! She was also really pleased to meet you. Hope to see you again in Chattanooga!"
Perhaps the most touching moment came when a teary-eyed youth pastor named Mark told us how God used our parodies, particularly the song "Life Restored," to help change his life several years ago, leading him to think more deeply about salvation and learn Romans 10:9. It was very humbling ... but we'll always prefer that type of humbling to hitting the wrong note or having the sound equipment malfunction!
Superfan of the South Wanda Rose Bush said that our SoulStock appearance "was my most favorite of the festival concerts, if not all the concerts I've been to. Hearing some new stuff live was such a huge treat, and to see and hear 'Devil Went Down to Jordan' live was extra special."
SoulStock was Wanda's 20th ApologetiX concert. As usual when we play in the Southeast, Wanda and the legendary Anne from Alabama led our team of volunteers at the CD table. Ironically, although Anne from Alabama has seen us play in many Southern states, this was her first ApologetiX concert in Alabama. It looks like it won't be her last, either ... we had a number of pastors and concert promoters ask us about doing future concerts for them in Alabama.
And since we thanked everybody else, we'd especially like to thank God for making the day such a wonderful experience.
