J. Jackson, lead singer and lyricist for ApologetiX here again.
Last week, I wrote an article called "Music: The Sacred, the Secular, and the Subjective" and included it in the newsletter. If case you missed it, you can still find it here: http://apologetix.com/news/news-details.php?news_id=4687
We got some great responses from fans, and here's one of our favorites:
Thank you for writing that – it gives insight to "the man" J. Jackson. I knew your walk definitely deals with being "in the world, not of the world", and when I pray for you, I especially pray about this dichotomy, as you dive into both through "music."
I cringe sometimes when I hear music, movies, whatever, dishonor God, especially when I know they did not have to do that, but purposely did it because they truly hate Him! Being "in" that, and not "of" that is difficult sometimes – I get it – and pray protection for you as you tread where many of us do not.
You have no idea how much it helps getting the "old" out of this 60-year-old memory, and be able to replace it with the "new", Jesus/God-honoring words!
We drove round trip from Johnson City TN to Tampa FL this past week, scanning the radio looking for a good Christian radio station with some "meat" (I'm sick of the Contemporary Christian milk). Many times I would end up stopping on a secular station playing one of the songs ApologetiX have parodied – I stop the radio seek, and start singing the right lyrics (ApologetiX) – ha!
Thank you!
I know there are some out there who do not understand how what you do honors God. They just don't get it. If God can use this truly broken vessel to honor Him, He can use truly broken melodies to honor Him! Again, thank you!!!
