Karl Messner, lead guitarist and producer for ApologetiX (That Christian Parody Band) here.

Remember when you signed onto the email newsletter list for ApologetiX, and we told you we did some special things for our email fans, friends and family? Last year we made a Christmas CD that was only available to our Internet friends.

Well, we have something VERY cool for you today! As you know, our seventh CD, "Grace Period," is scheduled to be out in early August. It won't be in stores for several weeks, but we'd like to leak you a free mp3 of the first single we're going to release... and it's the song talked about in this week's clue!

So, enjoy:

And please do US a favor: please send an email to your friends, family and church buds about ApologetiX and we've created a special website for your friends where they can get that mp3 too, as your guest. Please encourage your friends to get their free mp3 of our as-of-yet-unreleased song! Here's THEIR special page:

Thanks, and we can't wait for you to hear Grace Period. Its shining moments are among the best we've ever done, and we're excited to hear your reaction!

3. GRACE PERIOD CLUES #15 AND 16

#15 Smooth Grandmama
Most Christians can point to somebody in their lives who was a huge influence in bringing them to a saving faith in Christ. Sometimes it was that "fanatical" parent, grandparent, aunt or uncle whose faith scared you to death ó but they loved you to eternal life. This parody takes a humorous look at one of those situations.

The original version of this song was about a girl being stalked by a man; the parody's about a guy being stalked by his grandmother, because she wants him (and her whole family) to become a Christian. It's reminiscent of Paul's quote to his disciple Timothy in 2 Tim. 1:5: "I have been reminded of your sincere faith, which first lived in your grandmother Lois and in your mother Eunice and, I am persuaded, now lives in you also."

Like many other ApologetiX spoofs, this song was a hit in two different decades. However, usually when we say something like that, we're talking about the ë60s and some other decade. This time the original version was a Top 10 hit in the 1980's! The remake was a #1 modern rock hit last year. The original version was only a small blip in a long string of huge hits for the artist who performed it. The remake was the biggest hit by far for its performers.

#16 Baa! We're Lambs!
Everybody out there knows the famous opening line of the 23rd Psalm, "The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want." Speaking as a person whose owned both sheep and goats (check out the photo on the inside of the "Jesus Christ Morningstar" CD booklet), it's not as easy to keep sheep in line as you might think (goats, much to my surprise, were a cinch). I remember chasing my first sheep, Sparky, for a long time all over the place MANY times to try and get him where he needed to be. But that's nothing compared to how hard and how often God has had to chase me to get me where I needed to be. This song is one of our silliest endeavors, but it's already a favorite among the people who've heard it.

This song was a hit twice, both times in the ë60s. The second time around was the big one, even though it sounds like that version was recorded almost as a joke. It was a #2 hit in the mid-sixties for a group that scored three #1 hits in that decade, plus another #1 hit many years later. The first parody I ever heard of this song was on "Welcome Back, Kotter."
