The Writing's On the Arm
Tue., Jun. 13. 2006 10:17pm EDT
Karl Messner, lead guitarist and producer for ApologetiX here. It never ceases to amaze me how God works, even fun little things into the fabric of life. Check this out.
I get about 1000 emails a week. I used to say I got them all answered same day, but that's now totally impossible. Some of the general comments that come through the website end up saved for a rainy day or long van ride.
Last weekend was one such van ride.
So, on the way to Folly Beach, I was answering dozens and dozens of fan-mail type emails, and I came across this:
We've been waiting for you guys to come to SC! Folly Beach is a short trip for us from Summerville. My 10-year-old twins, Jayce & Reed, are huge fans.
Thanks for all you do,
Robyn & Joe Oglesby
I thought to myself, "Cool- that's today. I'm going to make a point to remember their names." So, I wrote their names and street address in sharpee on my arm. I thought if I saw them I could parlay that into a magic trick and a soon as I find out that the person I'm talking to is them, bang them on the head with my arm and pull it away and show them that their street address is somehow on my arm. David Blaine, eat your heart out.
I replied with a quick email and moved on:
I'm writing this on the way to Folly Beach, hope we got to talk!!
Karl
Well, they never showed, or at least I didn't catch it. But J. saw my arm later and after hearing the story, he told me that they had indeed been there, and I apparently didn't put two and two together.
Now, we're home, and I got a follow-up message. CHECK THIS OUT!
Yes, We did get to talk with you briefly. The concert was great. It was a beautiful day. And J. sang Happy Birthday to me! We bought several CD's & the DVD which I cannot wait to see.
I'm attaching a picture of my daughter and her favorite band's guitarist. I saw something that caught my eye in the picture and when I zoomed in on it, I was pleasantly surprised to see it was our name & address written on your arm! You guys are good to your fans!

When signing CDs J. remembered our names from meeting us before the show.
I have a few more pictures that are pretty good. Do you have a place for fans to post pictures?
Don't wait so long to come back to SC again! :)
Thanks and Grace to you,
Robyn Oglesby
HOW COOL IS THAT? I rarely get the inside of my arm that clearly visible in pictures and I still can't read my writing on that- but she saw it, zoomed in and voila!
God is good :)
