ApologetiX in Minnesota, Nebraska, TV, New Booking
Wed., Oct. 24. 2001 11:58pm EDT

J. Jackson, lead singer for ApologetiX (That Christian Parody Band) here.

Sorry this is late! I've been sick with the flu or something. Please pray that I'm all better for the concerts and the travel this weekend! Don't worry; God has always been faithful when I've been in those "sick before the concert" situations over the past decade! Please pray that His grace continues in that area!

2. YES, YOU REALLY CAN GET THE NEW CD ON-LINE AT CHRISTIANBOOK.COM

Last week, I told you that our new CD, "Keep the Change," was available through christianbook.com. Unfortunately, somebody forgot to tell the people at their website, and they incorrectly listed it as "on backorder." We notified them of this, and they changed it, but those of you who went to the site immediately may have never checked back. We just wanted to let you know it's in stock and on sale!

Keep the Change" CD won't be available from apologetix.com for a couple weeks, because we want to give the stores nationwide the first crack at it, because they waited so patiently for us to put it out. However, one of those stores is Christian Book Distributors, and they have on-line ordering. "Keep the Change" is on sale for $12.99 at christianbook.com right now! Here's where to go:

link no longer active

The sixth and latest CD by ApologetiX, "Keep the Change," was released October 9, 2001. "Keep the Change" features 19 tracks -- 12 parodies of songs from 1967-1980 and seven parodies of songs from the past year or so ... everything from Elton to Eminem, Bee Gees to Blink 182, Led Zep to Limp Bizkit, Three Dog Night to Three Doors Down.

You can also write an on-line review of "Keep the Change" at the site if you care to do so. It certainly wouldn't hurt us if you did, but we know you're busy, especially if you're driving to the Midwest from the East this weekend, like we are!

3. REALLY COOL STUFF

Thanks to all of you who came out to see us in Butler and Brookville, Pa., this past weekend! We were extremely blessed. The highlight for me was when Pastor Rich in Butler, Pa., told us one of the main reasons he'd asked us to come to his church. It turns out that when we did the concert at his previous church (a Lutheran church near Philadelphia) in 2000, that many people started coming to the church, making commitments for Christ, getting baptized, etc. He said one man, whom we had invited to join us on stage for "Enter Samson," told him later it was the first time he'd ever felt welcome in a church! That was awesome!

What made it even more cool was the fact that I had just recently been praying along with my wife, Lisa, that God would allow us to see more people coming to Christ though ApologetiX. Although we are incredibly encouraged by how many people have been prompted to read their Bibles more, recommit to their faith and get into Christian music, our heart's desire is also to see people discover Jesus for the first time. Pastor Rich told us that info within about a week of our prayer. Several days earlier, this letter came to our home:

Dear Lisa & J., I would like to begin this letter with a big thank you! On September 29, you performed in Paducah, Ky. However you did more than just perform that night. Your loving kindness really made a big difference in my daughter's life. Her name is Ashley (LAST NAME WITHHELD TO PROTECT PRIVACY). See on September 12, 2001, her father said, "I'll be back." We'll he's not returned. And he's not called to even talk to us. She felt so confused and abandoned. I kept trying to encourage her in God's words. All to no avail. Since your concert, she's since been saved. Praise the Lord. The Lord has been providing so greatly for us. And I'm so thankful to Him. And I'm so thankful that He sent your group to Paducah, KY. God bless you all. Our prayers are with you all. Keep up God's wonderful work.

Your friend in Christ, Ashley's mom (NAME WITHHELD TO PROTECT PRIVACY)

Attached to that letter was a letter from Ashley ...

Dear J. and Lisa, Thank you for letting me be so involved in the concert. I hope you know that was my first concert. You made it very special to me. I think your band is really great. I want to thank you for your autograph., Can you do me a favor and write me back?

Your favorite fan, Ashley

Editor's Note: That, my friends, is what it's all about! CD sales, airplay and concerts are great, but only if they're making a difference in people's lives.

4. WANNA BE ON TV WITH APOLOGETIX?

We're going to be taping two shows for Cornerstone Television's nationally broadcast "His Place" program on Wednesday, November
7. The episodes are slated to air on November 8 and 9.

The show's host, Jeff, has once again opened the doors if you'd like to be part of the studio audience. We had a great crowd when we did the shows this past June. Last time we talked a little and did three or four songs per show, but there were other guests. This time, the shows' main focus will be on ApologetiX "His Place" is filmed in a diner format, and they need people to fill the booths. They will also take people for off-stage, just to make crowd noise. I've done it in the past for other people myself, and it's fun.

Here's what Jeff sent me:

"Hey! Would you please do us the favor of issuing a blanket invitation to your readers/fans to come and be extras on the set the night that y'all are here? I'm keeping the night open hoping to fill the set with ApologetiX fans since both shows it's pretty much ëAll ApologetiX, all the time ... we can fit about 12 people at a time on the set, but if there are more we can try to shuffle them in and out AND set up chairs off set so they can watch from behind the cameras. As long as everyone knows that they are not guaranteed to get on the set. We like to have more than we can use when we have a band because they can clap, yell, scream, etc. after each song, creating the illusion that the diner is much larger then what you see on camera. Just to clarify, none of these people would actually be interviewed or talk on camera, but hey, they will be fed and possibly seen on TV all over the world."

If you'd like to come, you're invited. In case you don't know, "His Place" is filmed in Wall, PA, near Monroeville (near Pittsburgh) off Rt. 48. You can also use mapblast.com, mapquest.com, or yahoo maps for directions. The official address is: Cornerstone Television, 1 Signal Hill Dr., Wall PA 15148-1499.

The filming would start at 9:30 p.m. and probably be done by 11 p.m. You should plan to arrive between 9-9:15 p.m., but not before 9 p.m., because you'll be sitting around. If you arrive after 9:15 p.m., they can still probably get you in the studio, but after 9:30 p.m., that will be troublesome.

It's helpful if you call or e-mail first, so they know to expect you, although you can still come if you forget to call. Please call 412.824.3930 and ask for anyone in the "His Place" department. If no one is in, the receptionist should be able to help you. You can also e-mail to Jeff at JRedinger@ctvn.org

5. NEW BOOKING AGENT FOR APOLOGETIX

We have recently changed booking agents. Our concerts are now being handled by Burke Communications, the Southern California-based agency that also handles our public relations. To avoid confusion, D.W.S. Concerts and Darrel Statema, our former booking agent, will still handle any contracts that they have already initiated. However, if you have a concert scheduled through D.W.S. Concerts, and you have questions about publicity, logistics, etc., you can address those questions to Kathleen Burke at Burke Communications. You will find her to be extremely helpful!

If you'd like to schedule a concert or if you have had trouble reaching our booking office in the past, we encourage you to contact Kathleen! She has excellent response time and a great personal touch!

Her contact info is: 949-770-3001 (She's located in Southern California, so keep in mind that they keep Pacific Standard Time for hours!) and booking@apologetix.com.

7. AND THE WINNER IS ... UH ... ARE

Thanks to all of you who voted for the new ApologetiX publicity photo. The results were so close and so passionate (many people who liked the "Men in Black" standing photo weren't so keen on the multi-colored sitting photo and vice versa ... it was funny just how convincingly both sides argued their particular cases) that we decided to make both photos available in our press kit and at future concerts. Thanks for your help!

Thank you for everything!

Apologetically,
