Jimmy to Play 500th Concert This Friday
Sun., Sep. 5. 2010 9:30am EDT
ApologetiX drummer Jimmy "Vegas" Tanner is scheduled to play his 500th concert this Friday in Grafton WV. Jimmy will be the first drummer and only the fourth member of ApologetiX to make it to 500 concerts -- and the fastest by far, doing it in under five years.
Jimmy played his first concert with the band on October 28, 2005 in Noblesville IN. He's now been with ApologetiX for 4 years and 10 months, breaking the record of his predecessor, Bill "Moose" Rieger, who played with us for 4 years and 7 months.
Here's where Jimmy has played his milestone shows. Note that each has come in a different state.
100 - Rochester NY (2006)
200 - Hickory NC (2007)
300 - Columbia MD (2008)
400 - Southington CT (2009)
500 - Grafton WV (2010)
Jimmy has now played on seven ApologetiX CDs, counting Soundproof. The previous record for an ApologetiX drummer was five.
Numbers are only numbers, of course. The most amazing thing about Jimmy is that he has a personality perfectly suited to his prodigious abilities. Not only can he play any song, style, or band we throw his way, but he does so with great enthusiasm. He learns his parts willingly and diligently, even if it's a song by an artist he doesn't care for ... and there aren't too many of those, anyway.
Jimmy is always learning more about his craft -- watching concert videos and instructional videos, reading books and magazines by and about other drummers, and playing his drums every chance he gets.
And he's one of the nicest guys you'll ever meet, even though he hits things for a living. With apologies to Raymond, everybody loves Jimmy!
It didn't take long for Jimmy, his lovely wife, Eve, and his kids, Julie and little Jimmy (not so little anymore) to become part of the ApologetiX family. We enjoy getting together with them for dinner and other activities outside ApologetiX, too.
We praise God for bringing Jimmy and his family into ApologetiX and our family.
